Stress Reduction

Mind-body therapies for easing stress, anxiety, and worry

Coaching and Therapies for Stress Reduction

Whilst many people understand the stress response on an intellectual level, it can be difficult to put new ways of dealing with it into practice.

Emotional reactions often occur on a sub-conscious level, and if we experience very strong triggers, it can feel too overwhelming to deal with. This can lead to a cycle of unhelpful behaviours, like avoidance, or developing coping skills which may provide some immediate relief, but make the situation worse in the longer-term.

One way of breaking this cycle is to use mind-body therapies to release the impact of stress from the body, reset your mind, and create new healthier ways of reacting to stressful situations.

Here are a few of the best therapies for stress reduction:

Mindfulness is a great tool for stress relief.  It can be particularly helpful for developing greater levels of self-awareness, and for noticing patterns of behaviour, which is the first step to creating change. Meditation practices can also help with developing somatic presence, and increasing your level of emotional resilience.

Bodywork therapies can help with releasing muscular tension and pain which occurs as a result of chronic stress. They can also help with releasing difficult emotions from the body, and supporting the natural healing process.

Energy therapies - like reflexology, acupressure, or Reiki, can help with restoring overall balance and feelings of wellbeing.  Whilst aromatherapy and flower essences can be useful for providing mental and emotional stability.

Coaching - can help you to address the underlying reasons which are keeping you stuck in a pattern of stress or anxiety, a well as providing support whilst you integrate changes in your life.

All therapies are simply tools which support your own natural healing abilities, so rather than focusing on a specific modality, I find the best way to approach improving health is to combine whichever therapies you feel most drawn to.

Examples of Stress-Related Issues

  • Mental stressors: finances, work, constant worry
